Dr. Mangala Apte's life is devoted to music and is one of the leading torch bearers of Agra-Gwalior Gharana. The years of training and research culminated in achieving the highest degree in music 'Sangeet Acharya' from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyala. It was an arduous journey of mastering several 100 ragas and their intricate compositions. She had an honor to be guided by luminaries such as Dr. Pt. V. R. Athavale, Dr. Pt. Narayanrao Patwardhan and Pt. MadhavBua Ingale. She is one of the handful of authorized expert guides for future students venturing to reach this epitome.

On guidance from her guru Late Gayanacharya Pt. D. V. Kanebua - she completed a thesis on works of Late Pt. JagannathBua Purohit, a doyen of Agra-Gwalior Gharana. She also published a book depicting fascinating life and works of JagannathBua. This is a must read for every follower of Indian classical music as it brings forward life of a great Guru that gave rise to a golden era of music through his disciples like Manik Varma, C. R.
